SAS Sweden has cancelled a further 17 flights scheduled for Tuesday because of problems with its Dash 8-Q400 aircraft. The majority of the flights affected are domestic.

"Passengers on the cancelled flights will still be able to reach their destinations," said Mikael Lindberg, press officer for SAS in Sweden.

"This means that they have been rebooked and they may need to travel a bit by road. They will get there somehow, although unfortunately with delays."

Around 20 flights scheduled on Monday were cancelled, and last week the troubled airline grounded dozens of flights following two accidents involving the Dash 8-Q400 turboprop planes.

In both cases the plane's landing gear appeared to give way during emergency landings. Nobody was hurt in the first incident in Ålborg, in Denmark, or in the second case, in which a flight from Copenhagen to Palanga in Lithuania was diverted to Vilnius.

The aircraft, made by de Havilland Canada - now part of Bombardier Aerospace - carries 68-78 passengers.

Delays and cancellations are expected to continue until the weekend.
