Thieves experience economic boom

These are lucrative times for thieves, thieves filled their pockets with 9 billion kronor ($1.3 billion) worth of goods from Swedish grocery stores last year. This represents a 3 billion kronor increase over the last ten years.

Trade experts believe that the increase may be explained by the growth of organized crime.

"We can see from the quantities of goods stolen that these are larger, more well organized attacks," Dick Malmborg from the Swedish Trade Federation told Svenska Dagbladet..

He added that thieves were likely to steal products that they could later sell on to less discerning traders. Meat, coffee, hygiene items, sweets and batteries topped the list of most desirable goods.
