Government strives to turn immigrants into farmers
More immigrants should be encouraged to seek jobs in the agricultural sector, the government has said. A report has now been commissioned to look into ways of improving integration in rural areas.
Agriculture Minister Eskil Erlandsson points to farming jobs as one route open to unemployed immigrants who wish to avoid problems of social exclusion.
"I know that these sectors need competent personnel. I also know that a lot of people who come here from other countries have experience from the agriculture, fishery and food industry sectors.
"I think we can gain a lot from bringing people from other cultures into my sectors," said the minister in a statement.
