SAS cancels more flights
Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS) has cancelled more flights on Thursday, following two plane accidents earlier this week. The airline says the planes will be on the ground for several days.
The accidents both involved Dash 8-Q400 turboprop planes. Other planes of the same model have been taken out of service following the accidents.
Some 26 flights to, from and within Sweden are affected by the disruption. Eleven of the flights are international.
"Like yesterday, we are reallocating capacity so that travellers will still reach their destinations. We are re-routing some flights, as well as using buses and trains," said SAS spokesman Lars Andersen.
Among the international routes affected are flights from Stockholm Arlanda to Hamburg, London City, Düsseldorf, Riga and Tallinn. Passengers are being asked to contact the airline for rebooking. SAS says passengers will be rebooked "in whatever way is most convenient for passengers."
One of the major problem routes is Stockholm Arlanda-Örnsköldsvik, which is served only by the Dash planes. Passengers on this route are being diverted to Umeå and Sundsvall.
A midday service between Arlanda and Gothenburg is affected, and passengers are being transferred to earlier and later services.
Some 1,300 passengers in Sweden are affected by the changes and cancellations on Thursday. SAS estimates that it is losing 10-15 million kronor per day.
SAS estimated on Thursday that the planes would be grounded "for several more days."
