Porn ban for sex offenders

Prisoners convicted for sex offences are to be banned from receiving pornographic magazines, according to a new government proposal.

Justice Minister Beatrice Ask will present a bill on Tuesday intended to prevent prisoners from receiving literature judged to be unsuitable.

The new bill comes in response to Sweden's Supreme Administrative Court of Appeal, which ruled that a rapist's constitutional right to freedom of information entitled him to receive men's magazines and porn.

The government previously proposed changing the law, but its proposal was criticised in the Council of Laws, the official body charged with vetting proposed bills.

The government's new proposal is reworked, and states that prisoners should not be allowed access to "extreme publications" which "give nourishment to destructive behaviour."
