Scandinavian Airline System (SAS) saw profits rise in the second quarter. The airline group, based in Sweden, Norway and Denmark, made a pre-tax profit of 800 million kronor, compared with profits of 442 million kronor in the same period last year.

Turnover increased from 16.155 billion kronor to 16.294 billion.

The airline carried 11 million passengers during the period, breaking the company's previous record.

"For the time being there are no clear signs of a downturn in the economy or in the airline industry, but uncertainty remains about the strength of growth," wrote CEO Mats Jansson in a statement.

Jansson said he expects continued good passenger growth on most SAS markets.

"Competition is expected to remain hard on the markets in which SAS is active," he wrote.

Jansson said he regretted the strikes which hit the organization earlier this year.

"An important part of our strategy is to effect a cultural turnaround and find a new model for partnership with unions," he wrote.
