Three Swedes attacked by Bulgarian security guards
Three Swedish men are reported to have been assaulted by security guards at the Sunny Beach resort in the Bulgarian town of Nesebar on Wedesday night. Four security guards were involved in the attack, which left one of the tourists needing several stitches, Aftonbladet reports.
The men, aged 22, 27 and 28, are said to have been on their way to a nightclub when they were approached by four uniformed guards. All three of the men are dark-skinned.
"They asked where we came from," the 28-year-old told Aftonbladet.
"I thought maybe they wanted to talk or take a picture of us. They are not used to black people down here," he added.
Instead one of the guards informed them that "we don't like Africans". He then pulled out a baton and struck the 28-year-old on the head. His colleagues then began kicking and punching the other two men, leaving the 22-year-old requiring stitches to a head wound.
Staff at tour operator Apollo have been informed of the incident.
"Three of our guests have been assaulted. We have helped put them in contact with a doctor. As I understand it, they each had minor injuries," Kajsa Moström told news agency TT.
The men were foiled in their initial efforts to file a police report by an insurmountable language barrier.
"The tour operator is today going to help the men get access to an interpreter, which will enable them to put in a report," said Moström.
The men now want nothing more than to return to Sweden as quickly as possible. They are due to return on Sunday but hope that Apollo can somehow manage to put them on an earlier flight.
Wednesday's attack comes just two weeks after the death of a 24-year-old Swede following an assault by security guards in Nesebar.
