Ericsson wins largest-ever order

Telecoms giant Ericsson said Wednesday it had won a $2 billion network expansion order from India's Bharti Airtel, the largest order ever received by the Swedish company.

The Bharti contract will run for two year, Ericsson said.

The news came amid reports that Ericsson could lose an even larger order from India. Indian paper Business Standard writes that plans for a $3 billion deal with state-owned telecoms company BSNL is about to fall through after BSNL's board decided to reduce the order to just one fifth of its original size.

The decision is subject to the approval of Indian Communications Minister A Raja, who is expected to make his view known in the next couple of days.
