Drunk workers fired from nuclear plant

Reports of drunkenness and the harassment of female cleaners at a complex where several hundred temporary workers are being housed have caused management at the plant to rethink their safety strategy.

Eight workers have already been fired for two separate cases of harassment, Göteborgs-Posten reports. This has resulted in a raised level of security at the entrance to the plant and an increase in the number of random drug and alcohol tests carried out on workers.

"Those who have behaved badly have done so in their free time and not on the premises of Ringhals. We can't provide a hundred percent guarantee that nobody will come in drunk or under the influence of drugs but we do carry out an awful lot of tests of various kinds," Rickard Halldin, health and safety manager at Ringhals, told Göteborgs-Posten.

None of the workers relieved of their duties are reported to have ever visited sensitive areas of the plant.
