Fewer new companies in Sweden
The rate at which new companies are being started in Sweden is declining. The reason, according to ALMI Företagspartner, a state-owned body promoting business and entrepreneurship, is that the labour market is improving and more people choose to take jobs rather than go it alone.
Norrbotten, Uppsala, Örebro and Blekinge residents are the most independent-spirited, with an increase in new companies expected in the next twelve months.
But across the rest of Sweden entrepreneurship is on the wane. The greatest cooling-off has been in Stockholm, Västerbotten and Värmland, the latest ALMI Entrepreneur Index has revealed.
"The number of new companies being started is continuing to rise, but at a slower rate," said Göran Lundwall, head of ALMI Företagspartner, in a press statement.
The need for financing is still great among small companies in Sweden. Six out of ten ALMI consultants reported an increased demand for cash among client companies. That is the same level as last year.
"The fact that small companies are needing loans shows that people are investing and want to expand," said Lundwall.
The survey was carried out in May and was based on responses from 300 ALMI consultants.
