Faulty ejection seat caused fighter plane crash

Saab has now discovered the cause of the accidental ejection of a pilot from a JAS Gripen plane in April - the lever on the ejection seat was too stiff and was placed too close to the pilot's thigh.

With Saab now having produced a softer handle, the JAS Gripen fighter planes can soon begin flying again. All flights had been grounded pending the results of an investigation.

"The planes can being flying as normal as soon as the new levers are installed," Saab's production manager Tommy Nygren told newspaper Östgöta Correspondenten.

The plane has crashed at Vidsel airport in Norrbotten in northern Sweden on April 19th.
