Swedes move more often

Swedes are moving home more often than ever before. After a reduction in mobility in the recession of the early 1990s, Swedes now move more frequently even than during the 1960s.

The findings were made by researchers at Umeå as part of the government's Long Term Survey of the Swedish Economy.

The researchers write in Friday's Dagens Nyheter that people in their twenties and thirties are the most mobile. Well-educated men benefit most from moving from one part of Sweden to another.

The survey also found that more people are choosing to commute long distances to work. The number of people who live in one municipality and work in another has grown from 700,000 thirty years ago to 1.3 million today.
