The victims, a 48-year-old man and his partner, a 46-year-old woman, were found dead on Monday in Ludvigsborg, between the towns of Höör and Hörby.

The man was found in the doorway of an apartment block and the woman in a nearby building. The 31-year-old was arrested soon afterwards.

The accused man denied killing the couple.

"He maintains that he is completely innocent of these two murders," said the 31-year-old's lawyer, Leif Persson.

The man covered his head with his jacket as he entered Lund District Court. The judge allowed him to hide his face during the parts of the proceedings open to the press and public. He was also wearing a sling on his arm, but prosecutor Christer Ovallius said that this was unrelated to the murder charge.

The suspect had previous convictions for violent crimes as well as drug and traffic offences.

Ovallius said after the remand hearing that police had spoken to a number of witnesses, including 5-10 schoolchildren. Children from a school in the town had found the murdered man.

Police have so far not found the murder weapon. Ovallius would not reveal what kind of weapon being sought.
