Unemployment continues to drop

The number of people out of work in Sweden is continuing to fall. By the end of April 166,000 people, or 3.7 percent of the workforce, were openly unemployed.

According to Bo Bylund, head of the Employment Service, this represents 38,000 fewer people than in April last year.

"The number of available jobs is continuing to grow rapidly and unemployment is lower in all counties and for all age groups," said Bylund.

The current total number of people in labour market programmes is 64,000 or 1.4 percent of the workforce, which is 45,000 fewer than in April 2006.

The Employment Service received notification of 77,000 job vacancies in April, 31,000 more than the same period last year.
