The two sides have agreed on a 10.2 percent wage hike for 60,000 members of the HTF union. The rises will be implemented over a period of three years.

The planned strikes would have led to 1,500 union members walking out on 9th May, with Ikea and ICA among the worst affected stores. All HTF members would have walked out on 21st May, in a move that would have caused widespread chaos.

The union had previously been offered a 10.2 percent deal by the Swedish Trade Federation but had rejected it as insufficient.

A strike in the hospitality industry was called off on Friday after employers and unions agreed a three-year wage deal.
