Tele2 posts first quarter profit

Mobile operator Tele2 has reported a first quarter pre-tax profit of 104 million kronor ($15m). The equivalent figure for the first quarter of 2006 was 121 million kroor.

Tele2's earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) increased by 22 percent to 1.5 billion kronor, while operating revenue grew by 5 percent to 12.84 billion.

The company saw its first quarter mobile revenues in increase by 29 percent to 5.2 billion kronor, with Russia in particular showing strong growth.

"We are in a stage of focus. During 2007, we expect to see the majority of our revenue being generated within our own infrastructure based mobile and broadband services, as a result of our shift in focus from resold fixed line telephony to our own infrastructure based services," said CEO Lars-Johan Jarnheimer in a statement.
