86-year-old spared court case for sex with child
An 86-year-old man in Värmland in western Sweden will not face charges despite having had sexual relations with a child on several occasions in the mid-1990s.
Prosecutor Pia Hammar instead elected to give the man a suspended sentence and a 75,000 kronor ($11,000) fine. The decision means that the elderly man man avoids a court case and the possibility of a tougher sentence.
The prosecutor took the man's age and physical condition into account when reaching her decision.
"I considered it unlikely that a court would sentence him to prison," Pia Hammar told newspaper Nya Wermlands-Tidningen.
