Cooks snubbed on Reinfeldt visit

Cooks at a hospital in south-eastern Sweden say they feel hurt after bosses refused to serve their food during a visit by Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt.

The hospital canteen in Oskarshamn was serving delicacies such as pan-fried herrings. But when the prime minister came to visit, chiefs opted to order food from a local restaurant.

Local newspaper Barometern reports that cooks felt insulted when their food was passed over.

Stina Karlsson, a spokeswoman for the hospital, confirmed that it was considered more appropriate to order in food from outside:

"The hospital canteen was serving only pan-fried herring that day. We thought it would be good to have something else," she said.

The hospital kitchen told Barometern that it offers a choice of five dishes on any given day.
