A lesbian denied employment at a confirmation camp run by YMCA-YWCA scouts in southern Sweden has been paid compensation by the organization.

The camp, at which her partner already worked as an assistant, was run jointly by the YMCA-YWCA and the local Church of Sweden parish of Höör, reports Malmö newspaper Sydsvenskan.

The woman was told that it was the YMCA's policy not to employ couples at the camp. It later transpired, however, that a number of heterosexual couples were among the scout leaders.

The woman reported the matter to Homo, the ombudsman dealing with discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. Following her complaint, the YMCA-YWCA offered on Wednesday to pay the woman compensation.
