The man, 38, was arrested in the coastal town of Pattaya by Thai police following a request from police in Sweden. He is accused of illegally exporting large quantities of prescription medication from Thailand to Sweden.

Syringes, a Swedish police ID badge and money were collected by police in a raid on the man's house in Thailand, according to English-language Thai newspaper Pataya City News.

The man was formally arrested for immigration offences after Sweden cancelled his passport. He is expected to be deported to Sweden in the near future.

Varg Gyllander, spokesman for the National Criminal Police in Stockholm, told The Local that the man had been wanted by Swedish officers.

"We can confirm that there has been an arrest following an investigation by the National Criminal Police," he said.
