Woman dies after Brit drives on the left
A British driver veered onto the wrong side of the road in Gothenburg on Tuesday evening, resulting in a head on collision and the death of a 75-year-old woman.
Two other people travelling with the woman were also injured; a 70-year-old woman and a man of the same age. Both were taken to Sahlgrenska hospital for treatment.
The driver of the other car, a 43-year-old British citizen, was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter but has since been released without charge.
"The crash happened when he drove over onto the left-hand side. He was sober.
"He was also injured in the crash but not very badly.
"We do not think there was any crime. It was an accident. The British embassy has been contacted," police spokeswoman Camilla Larsson told The Local.
The accident took place on Kongahällavägen in the Hisingen district of Gothenburg.
The road, which is located just north of Göteborg City Airport, was closed for just over an hour to allow emergency services access to the scene.
