The Rednex had been among the favourites to win the Romanian competition, but national broadcaster TVR ruled that significant elements of their song, Well-o-wee had been performed before the October 1st 2006. All songs entered into the Eurovision Song Contest must be original releases.

The Swedish techno-country group had been competing together with local group Ro-mania. Svenska Dagbladet quotes a spokeswoman for TVR saying that parts of the song had been released on CD by Ro-mania in 2001.

Rednex member Annika Ljungberg is quoted by Swedish news agency TT-Spektra saying that it was strange that the Romanian TV company had approved the song at an early stage, only to reverse the decision now.

"There are many question marks surrounding Romanian TV," she said.

The Rednex were launched on the international scene by their 1994 hit Cotton Eyed Joe. The band finished sixth in Sweden's 2006 Melodifestivalen.
