Swedish celebrity in court over child sex
A top Swedish entertainment personality has appeared in court in Gothenburg charged with sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl, it has been reported.
The star, who cannot be named for legal reasons but who has been successful on the international scene, is accused of fondling the girl's private parts. When the girl's family took her to a doctor, she was diagnosed with genital herpes, Göteborgs-Posten reports.
The man is also accused of threatening the girl's father and a female witness. The assaults took place between August 2000 and May 2002, when the girl was between 7 and 9 years old, the prosecution alleges.
The girl is to testify at trial via video recordings.
The star wore sunglasses as he arrived at court in Gothenburg on Monday. He was carrying a pocket light in his hand, which he used to dazzle photographers, a number of media reported.
The man denies charges of sexual exploitation of a minor and making illegal threats.
