The 21-year-old celebrated Saturday's first ever World Cup success in the best possible way, timing the two runs in 1min 44.20sec to beat home Austria's Mario Matt, also runner-up the day before, by three hundredths of a second.

Italy's Manfred Molgg took third, five hundredths of a second behind.

Byggmark, competing in only his ninth World Cup race, was placed fifth after the first run before dominating the second which caught out a host of favourites.

In the overall World Cup standings Norway's Aksel Lund Svindal consolidated his position as leader ahead of Switzerland's Didier Cuche, who skipped the action at Kitzbühel, and American Bode Miller, disqualified Sunday five gates from the finish on the second run.
