Head of Swedish Security Service dies at 61
The Swedish Security Service's director general Klas Bergenstrand has died of a suspected heart attack. Bergenstrand fell ill during the night and was taken to St. Göran's Hospital where he was declared dead.
Deputy head Kurt Malmström will take charge of the organisation until further notice, according to a statement released by the Security Service.
Bergenstrand took over as head of the organisation in April 2004 after a long career in the judiciary and the justice department.
He has also held a number of positions in the Swedish Police Service.
Klas Bergenstrand died at the age of 61.
