Government's approval rating begins recovery
The government's approval rating is on its way back up after a post-election slump. At the beginning of January, 40 percent of those polled said that the government was doing a good job. Two months earlier the equivalent figure was 37 percent.
Pollster Skop posed two questions to 1,000 Swedes between the ages of 18 and 84:
Do you think that the government on the whole is doing a good or a bad job?
Do you think that a Social Democratic government would do a better or a worse job?
Skop noted that the proportion who thought the government was doing a very good job remained unchanged, whereas the number of those who responded that the government was doing a very bad job rose from 8 to 12 percent.
"Swedes' rating of the government has become more polarised," said Skop's Birgitta Hultåker in a statement.
A total of 28 percent reckoned that the government was doing either quite a bad job or a very bad job.
Of those surveyed, 36 percent considered that a Social Democratic government would do a better job, up 4 percentage points on the previous poll.
At the same time, 28 percent thought that a Social Democratic government would fare worse than the current one, compared to 25 percent last time round.
