Record slump for Reinfeldt's government
Sweden's governing parties are continuing to lose voter support while the Social Democrat-led opposition is increasing its popularity. That's the conclusion of opinion polls published this weekend.
The three opposition parties' lead over the government is a record 11 percent, according to a Sifo poll conducted in January and published in Svenska Dagbladet and Göteborgs-Posten on Sunday.
Svenska Dagbladet noted that no government has ever lost so much support in the first 100 days after winning an election as Fredrik Reinfeldt's.
Since the election in September the Social Democrats have increased their support by 6.4 percent to 41.4 percent. Together with the Left Party's 5.7 percent and the Green Party's 6.5 percent, the opposition can now claim 53.6 percent support in Sweden.
According to GP the Social Democrats are gaining support fastest in Stockholm, where every third voter now claims to support the party compared to one in four before the election. SvD reported that the increased support for the party primarily comes from women under the age of 50.
The four parties that make up the government only managed 42.2 percent support in Sifo's survey. The Moderates claimed 26 percent, while there was 6 percent support for the Centre Party, 5.3 percent for the Liberals and 4.9 percent for the Christian Democrats.
Sifo's figures were backed up by a poll by Synovate-Temo which was published in Dagens Nyheter on Saturday and also showed a significant lead for the red-green opposition over the conservative government.
The Social Democrats, Greens and Left Party stood at 51.8 percent while the government parties could only claim 44.5 percent.

Sifo interviewed 1,908 people between January 8th and January 19th.
