It is not the first time that the man has tried to force his way back into his former girlfriend's life, Expressen reports. Four times in the last year she has reported him for threatening her.

"He is forbidden from visiting her and is not allowed to make contact," said police commander Anders Gustavson.

At 1.40 a.m. he stood outside his ex-girlfriend's home and started up his chainsaw.

"He began sawing through the door," said Gustavson.

The woman was inside her home with a daughter from her relationship with the 25-year-old and her new boyfriend.

"For some reason he got scared and fled the scene in a car," said Gustavson.

Police managed to arrest the man in the nearby town of Sävsjö at 2.35 p.m.

"He is suspecting of making serious threats, causing damage to property and breaking his visiting ban," said Gusavson.

The man is currently being detained in Jönköping and is refusing to answer any questions.

"This is a story that has gone on for a long time; an old relationship gone out of control," said police investigator Pia classon.
