According to police, the woman and a group of other Swedes caused the avalanche when they strayed from the area cleared for skiing at the Jochberg resort near Kitzbühel.

The woman lay buried under the snow for two minutes before others in the group were able to pull her out.

She was taken by helicopter to a nearby hospital where doctors diagnosed her with hypothermia and a knee injury.

"I've been very lucky," the woman told news agency TT.

No other members of the group were injured in the avalanche.
