Tiger Woods and his wife, Elin, are expecting their first child in 2007, the golf superstar announced on his web site on Saturday.
The news coincided with Woods's 31st birthday, which he said he was celebrating quietly with friends and family.
"But Elin and I have more exciting news to share: We are expecting our first child this summer," Woods wrote.
"Obviously we couldn't be happier, and our families are thrilled. I have always wanted to be a dad. I just wish my father could be around to share in the experience."
Woods's father and mentor, Earl Woods, died on May 3 of cancer.
Woods married Elin Nordegren, a former model from Sweden, in October 2004.
