Swedish astronaut completes final mission

Swedish astronaut Christer Fuglesang and colleague Robert Curbeam last night succeeding in folding the port solar array on the International Space Station.

Their final task completed, Fuglesang and his fellow astronauts are now ready to begin the return journey.

"A fantastic job," said the pair's travel companions. And back in Houston ground control staff broke into spontaneous applause.

After 6 hours and 38 hours spent outside the shuttle, the mission was eventually completed and the spacewalkers could return indoors.

The spacewalk was Fuglesang's third in all. Stockholm's current favourite son has now spent a total of 18 hours and 14 minutes floating in outer space.

Curbeam meanwhile became the first astronaut ever to conduct four spacewalks in a single mission, bringing his total to seven.
