Sweden's Princess Lilian will not be attending this year's Nobel Banquet - because she is too old.

According to Aftonbladet, the Palace took the decision to exclude the sprightly 91 year old without consulting her first.

"I will call the queen and find out what is going on. I feel fine and there is nothing wrong with me. I don’t understand it," said a disappointed Princess Lilian to Aftonbladet.

It will be the second time in 30 years that she will not participate in the Nobel festivities along with the rest of the Royal family. She will only be present at the prize ceremony.

But according to Catherine Broms, spokeswoman for the Royal Court, Princess Lilian had agreed that it would be best for her to give the event a miss.

"The Nobel Party is a long sitting and Princess Lilian and the Royal Family have decided together that the banquet would be too long for her. She is after all, over 90 years old," said Broms to DN.se.

Princess Lilian, who originally hails from south Wales, attended her first Nobel Banquet in 1976, three days after marrying Prince Bertil.
