Swedish courts cleared after bomb threat
Three district courts in northern Sweden were evacuated on Tuesday after telephone bomb threats were received.
The courts in Umeå, Skellefteå and Lycksele were cleared and the areas around them were sealed off by police, reported Västerbottens Kuriren.
According to the police, a telephone threat was received at the police emergency call centre at about 10:20am.
The caller only told the police that there was a "threat against the district court," said police spokesman John Forsberg.
The threat was initially thought to apply to Umeå district court and an order to evacuate was issued. Shortly after, the courts in Skellefteå and Lycksele were also evacuated due to uncertainty over which courts the threat was directed at.
The Skellefteå and Lycksele courts were re-opened after extensive searches by the police, who concluded that no serious threat was posed to the courts and employers.
The court in Umeå and the surroundings were still roped off on Tuesday evening, and bomb experts were being brought in from Stockholm. Trained bomb technicians will search the area with help of dogs.
“I don’t want to speculate or go into details about the investigation, or whether the bomb threat had anything to do with a case that was being handled by the court today,” said John Forsberg to The Local.
The cases that were being handled in the district court in Umeå were cancelled for the day and employees were ordered to go home.
