Prisoners escape by attaching cutlery to shoes

Clever criminals attached cutlery to their shoes to facilitate their escape from Storboda prison north of Stockholm. But with forked feet the 49-year-old man who made it over the jail’s fence found his ability to run sorely hampered.

The man’s 19-year-old companion never made it that far. He got stuck in the wire fence while attempting to flee.

Together the men had hatched a dastardly plan, Aftonbladet reports.

First they ransacked the canteen cutlery drawer. Then they went out to the yard for their Friday afternoon walk.

At some point they managed to affix the pilfered forks to their footwear. And so began the great dinner service escape of 2006.

But it didn’t last long. The younger man’s prongs got stuck and he was easily nabbed by prison guards.

His older partner in crime made better progress, using his improvised claws to successfully surmount the prison fence.

Needless to say he wasn’t quite so fleet of foot on solid ground. Some guards took chase by foot, while others hopped into a car and quickly closed in on the hapless fugitive.

Both men have now been moved to a higher security prison.
