Lecturer warned for groping student

Two lecturers at Umeå University have been given warnings by their employer after sexually harassing students.

The incidents took place at a student party. One of the lecturers groped a female student, the other male lecturer kissed another female student.

The students say they did not appreciate the lecturers' familiarity and claim the episode made them feel uncomfortable.

The lecturers have defended their actions, saying they had attended the parties as private individuals. But the university has rejected their arguments, and issued them both a formal warning, the Västerbottens-Kuriren newspaper wrote.

The university's disciplinary committee ruled that the pair had been invited to the party as teachers. All the other guests were aware that they were teachers, and the pair's behaviour should therefore be seen as a serious occurrence, the committee said.
