Swedes would still choose Alliance

Swedes would still vote in prime minister Fredrik Reinfeldt's centre-right Alliance if there was a general election today, according to a new poll from Sifo.

Despite the fact that two of Reinfeldt's ministers have been forced to resign since the new government took office, the poll shows that voters still have faith in the Alliance. Figures in the poll are roughly the same as those in last month's general election.

The four Alliance parties together have the support of 47.8 percent of those questioned, compared to 48.2 percent in the election. The opposition left-wing parties have the support of 46.4 percent compared to the 46.1 percent they gained in the election.

On the Alliance side, the Moderates were up 0.1 percentage points to 26.3 percent, the Liberal Party was on 8.3 percent (+0.8), the Centre Party had 7.3 percent (-0.6) and the Christian Democrats 5.9 percent (-0.7). In the left-wing opposition, the Social Democrats have the support of 35.4 percent (+0.4), the Left Party has 5.6 percent (-0.3) and the Green Party 5.4 percent (+0.1).

The Sweden Democrats won 2.9 percent of the votes in the general election, and appeared in the new poll to have increased their support by half a percentage point.

All changes in the parties' support were within the margin of error.

The poll was published in Svenska Dagbladet and Göteborgs-Posten, and was carried out between 9th and 19th October. Some 1,883 people answered the question: "Which party would you vote for if there were parliamentary elections today?"
