Wage increases slower for blue collar workers

Wages for white collar workers have increased at a much greater rate than those of blue collar workers over the last ten years, according to a report presented today by the trade union organisation LO.
White collar workers earned an average of 27,400 kronor a month in 2005, whereas blue collar workers took home 19,100 kronor. This means that wages have grown at a rate of 51 per cent for white collar workers since 1995, while they have increased by 43 per cent for blue-collar workers over the same period, according to LO's report.
"This is the result of directors receiving huge wage hikes and then rewarding their closest colleagues much more than wage earners in general. It is a completely unacceptable situation," LO's Erland Olausson told Sveriges Radio.
The Local has tried without success to get a response to these claims from the Confederation of Swedish Enterprise and Ledarna, an organisation representing Swedish managers.
