Tiger Woods on Wednesday voiced his fury after an Irish magazine published bogus topless pictures of his Swedish wife.

Under the headline "Ryder Cup filth for Ireland" the Dubliner magazine printed raunchy pictures it claimed to be of Elin Woods and observed that pictures of the former model "in a variety of sweaty poses," could be found on pornographic internet sites.

Elin Woods is the daughter of Barbro Holmberg, migration minister in Sweden's outgoing government.

In a statement, the magazine said the article had been intended as a satirical "parody of inaccurate tabloid publishing," and apologised for the offence it had caused.

A clearly upset Woods took time out at the start of his first Ryder Cup press conference to condemn the magazine's conduct as unacceptable.

"My wife has been a model and she did do some bikini shots," Woods said.

"But to link her to porn sites and such is unacceptable.

"I do not accept that at all and neither does our team."

The world number one added: "It is hard not to get emotional about this.

"My wife is an extension of me. We are in it together, we do things as a team and I care about her with all my heart."

Woods insisted that he would not let the episode distract from his enjoyment of Ireland and was at pains to express his gratitude for the "gracious" behaviour of fans from Ireland and the rest of Europe.

But Europe's Ryder Cup captain Ian Woosnam will be hoping the American does not channel his anger into his performances when the 36th Ryder Cup gets underway on Friday.
