Marie Ehrling resigned as head of Swedish telecoms giant Telia Sonera on Monday. She will be replaced by Anders Bruse.

"This is a decision which has taken some time. Four years is about right and I feel ready for new challenges," said Marie Ehrling to TT.

During her time at Telia Sonera she has been responsible for the Swedish operation. But in her previous post at SAS she had a more international focus, and she said that she would prefer a similarly broad role.

"I don't actually know what I'll do immediately, but I want to get back to an international job," she said.

Her resignation from Telia Sonera has led to speculation that she may be in the running for the top job at SAS.

"Everything that's been written about new jobs is irrelevant," she said.

She leaves Telia Sonera in the midst of perhaps its biggest ever organisational change, as the company moves away from traditional telephony and towards mobile, data and TV services.

The company is downsizing, with a thousand jobs being lost as part of an ongoing process.

Sweden's change of government could also see Telia Sonera broken up and sold off.

Anders Bruse took over the running of the company on Monday, although Ehrling will remain involved as she works her notice period. Bruse has worked at Telia since 1989 and oversaw the merger between Telia and Sonera in 2002.
