Ericsson is reorganizing itself, planning on having three business areas: Networks, Global Services and Multimedia.

The wave of new engineers will be brought onboard to accelerate research, including developing the next generation’s IP net and multimedia, the company said in a press release today.

“The majority of those 500 new engineers will be employed in Sweden,” said Åse Lindskog, Ericsson’s press chief. “I think the majority of those new engineering jobs will be place within Multimedia.”

The reorganization shows the company’s focus toward a completely new customer within new media, for example Yahoo and E-Bay,” said telecom analyst Helena Nordman-Knutson, with Öhman Equities to TT.

“We are stronger than ever and it is the right time to increase the speed of our business development,” said CEO Carl-Henric Svanberg.
