Volvo scraps Sweden jobs
Swedish carmaker Volvo plans to reduce its workforce by 1,470 people. Most of the jobs lost will be among while collar workers.
The new announcement includes 180 jobs the company had previously announced that it would scrap. Of the jobs to be lost internationally, 720 will go in Sweden.
The company, which is owned by Ford, said the job losses were part of its previously announced cost-cutting programme.
The company said that 40 white-collar workers in Gothenburg would be given notice, while another 150 blue-collar and 140 white-collar staff would be offered early retirement. These were in addition to the 300 employees who had previously accepted the offer.
The company also said it would reduce by 300 the number of people working in the company as hired consultants. A further 450 employees outside Sweden will also lose their jobs, mostly at the company's assembly plant in Belgium.
Volvo, owned by Ford, has 27,500 employees worldwide, of which 19,500 are based in Sweden.
