According to officials at the scene, six people were in the shop in the Majorna part of the city when the ceiling fell down. They were quickly reached by the emergency services and three were taken to Sahlgrenska hospital by ambulance. Their injuries were said to be mild.

The building had recently been renovated after a fire earlier in the year, and it is thought that there were no other people there when the ceiling collapsed.

"The ceiling fell down into the shop," an eyewitness told TT.

"All the way from the chimney it has cut right through and down into the shop. There were a few people in there, but they seem to have got everyone out. Three people had something round their necks when they came out."

Late on Friday afternoon the emergency services continued searching for more people who could have been in the shop at the time.
