Some 38 taxis and buses of used to ferry children to two schools were checked during three days at the end of August. Of those, 27 vehicles were found to be inadequate, Göteborgs-Posten reported.

"It was worse than I expected," said Anders Granath, head of the roads control group at Gothenburg traffic police.

In 16 cases the vehicles broke school transport regulations.

"Many vehicles were missing visible school signs, others did not use the required flashing indicators," said Granath.
