The total number of those working in Sweden went up 2.1 percent to slightly more than 4 million people during the second quarter compared to the year before, according to a Statistics Sweden survey released on Tuesday. This is the highest amount during the past six years.

The survey said the number of employees in the private sector grew the most at 2.7 percent, the largest growth the sector has seen in five years. Salaries also went up 5.3 percent. Within the public sector, salaries increased 1.0 percent

The total number of vacant jobs in the private sector went up 39,100, an increase of 29 percent.

Private sector jobs available during the second quarter went up 3.8 percent in Stockholm County compared to last year’s figures during the same time. Skåne and Västra Götaland also saw total a rise in employment of 2.0 percent and 3.0 percent.

Among the 70,000 people newly employed during the second quarter, some 40 percent of the growth took place at small companies with less than 10 workers, while the total number working at companies with more than 200 employees decreased by 5,000.
