Prisoner escapes during soccer game
A prisoner at Mariefred jail in central Sweden escaped on Wednesday evening while playing football with other inmates. Police say a search is now underway in the escaped man's home town.
The man, convicted of assault and criminal trespass, ran away from the soccer match towards central Mariefred.
"He suddenly just ran away, and nobody had time to react before he disappeared," said Skövde polce spokeswoman Marlene Andersson.
Mariefred prison is an open jail, and there is no fence around the football pitch.
