Sweden should bid for the 2018 Winter Olympics, the Centre Party has proposed.

According to the party's plan, there should be a national convention to look at bringing the Winter Olympics to Östersund and Åre .

The proposal was contained in the Centre Party's report 'Active Sports Policies' ('En aktiv idrottspolitik'), presented at the Almedalen political week in Visby.

Other suggestions made in the document included an annual 1 billion kronor grant to the sporting movement from the profits of Sweden's state-owned gambling monopoly, Svenska Spel.

There should also be better pay for people who lead sports activities in their spare time. Volunteer sports coaches can currently make tax deductions of up to 3,000 kronor. Under the Centre Party's proposals sports clubs and organizations would be able to pay tax free sums of up to around 5,000 kronor to leaders and organizers.
