Company bans candy for fat workers

Employees at an aluminum processor in central Sweden are not happy after their candy and soda was taken away from them.

Kubal, centered near Sundsvall, recently decided that some of the workers were getting fat from the candy and soda available. The company recently took away the complimentary candy and soda machines in hopes workers would shape up.

Several ideas were suggested, but the company decided to drop the sugars and start offering salads at lunch.

Several workers miss their sweets.

“This is too much, adult people should be allowed to decide what they stuff in themselves,” said union head Stefan Hultman.

He thinks the company should offer healthier alternatives instead of just taking away the candy and soda.

“If the company is concerned about its workers’ health, it should offer fruit baskets instead of candy,” Hultman said, according to Svenska Dagbladet.

Kubal is open to new suggestions. Agneta Gustafsson, the company’s personnel chief, said the situation could have been handled differently.

“I think we have been a bit bad in communicating, which led to some workers reacting so strongly,” she said. “We are trying to work out new possibilities, and fruit baskets are an option.”
