Swedish trade surplus increases

Sweden's trade surplus rose in May to 15.4 billion kronor, up from 11.8 billion a year earlier, Statistics Sweden said on Monday.

The surplus was above the 13.6 billion kronor expected by analysts, according to a survey by SME Direkt.

Exports increased by 16 percent from a year earlier to 93.4 billion kronor, and imports by 13 percent to 78 billion.

Trade with countries outside the EU resulted in a surplus of 13.4 billion kronor, while EU trade resulted in a surplus of 2.0 billion.

Over the first six months of the year, Sweden had a trade surplus of 73.1 billion kronor, compared to 59.1 billion during the same period last year, the statistics agency said.
