Liberal support weakens

The Liberal Party - Folkpartiet - is losing voters, according to a new opinion poll from Sifo in which Lars Leijonborg's party is down 2.5 percentage points since May.

The poll shows an almost equal split between the two political blocs. The Social Democrats, Left Party and Green Party have 48.9 percent, while the centre-right Alliance has 47.3 percent support.

The red-green coalition's lead over the Alliance is within the margin of error. The new poll follows a major study by Statistics Sweden earlier this week, which also showed a dead heat between the political blocs.

The Liberals' fall in support was the only statistically significant change shown by the Sifo poll. The party had shown steady support of 11 percent during the spring, rising to 11.7 in May, but now only scored 9.2 percent.

The minor parties have gained support, according to the poll. The Sweden Democrats are on 1.6 percent, the Feminist Initiative 1.2 percent. The June List has only 0.6 percent support. A party needs at least 4 percent of the vote in order to be represented in the Riksdag.

The Sifo poll was published in Svenska Dagbladet, Göteborgs Posten and Skånska Dagbladet. Sifo interviewed 1,920 people between 5th and 15th June. Respondents were asked which party they would vote for if an election were to be held today.

The State of the Parties

Social Democrats 37.6 (+1.0)

Moderates 26.9 (+1.7)

Liberal Party 9.2 (-2.5)

Centre Party 6.2 (+0.4)

Left Party 6.1 (-0.7)

Green Party 5.2 (-0.3)

Christian Democrats 5.0 (-0.2)

Others 3.8 (+0.6)
