Anti-racist chief did not report race attack

The Swedish government’s discrimination commissioner was attacked by racists two months ago, but said he didn’t bother to report it because he did not think it was worth it.

“I have stopped reporting (incidents) since unfortunately it obviously doesn’t lead anywhere,” said Masoud Kamali, the government’s discrimination commissioner, to Svenska Dagbladet.

“The police don’t take it seriously,” he added.

Kamali said he stepped off of a train in Uppsala two months ago and as he was walking was attacked by two men at the station. He said he heard somebody taunting him from behind. “Go back to Iran with your damn inquiry.”

He said they jumped him from behind and took a firm hold. Before running away, he was kicked in the ribs.

Kamali has led the country’s commission on integration and structural discrimination since 2004.
